Fraud Friday Red Flags: Secrecy

Aug 29, 2025 | 1 Minute Read

Is someone asking you not to tell anyone about a transaction they asked you to do?  Maybe they don’t want to get in trouble with their boss for overpaying you, accidentally sent you a larger payment than intended, hired you as a mystery shopper, don’t want their family to know they’re struggling financially, or one of many other stories.

They assure you that they just want to fix a problem and don’t want to get you or them in trouble.  It may also need to be done quickly, which is why you can’t involve anyone else.   What they actually don’t want is for someone else to talk you out of doing the transaction for them.

Be sure to check out our Blog or our page on Facebook for fraud tips every Friday. We’ll cover different types of fraud as well as red flags to help you identify when it might be a scam.

Remember, if you have questions about a possible fraud situation or just an uneasy feeling about a phone call, text, email, or transaction, feel free to contact the Fraud Department at (605) 934-2500.
