Fraud Friday: Social Media Scam

Jul 25, 2025 | 1 Minute Read

Have you ever seen an ad on social media for your favorite brand at a fraction of the cost? Or, maybe it’s access to the newest tech or tickets to a great concert before tickets even go on sale to the public. Whatever the gimmick may be, remember that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Be wary of clicking on ads in social media.  Behind the “good deal” may be scammers trying to get your personal information, steal your money, or install malware for a variety of reasons.  Instead, visit a known website or call a known phone number of the company, product, or event to find out if the deal is legitimate.

Be sure to check out our Blog or our page on Facebook for fraud tips every Friday. We’ll cover different types of fraud as well as red flags to help you identify when it might be a scam.

Remember, if you have questions about a possible fraud situation or just an uneasy feeling about a phone call, text, email, or transaction, feel free to contact the Fraud Department at (605) 934-2500.
